Sherry's Austin TX Real Estate Blog: Halloween is going to Suck this year

Halloween is going to Suck this year

Halloween is going to suck this year for a lot of kids.  With all the foreclosures going on, certain neighborhoods are going to be slim on treats for the kiddies.

Hopefully neighbors will keep an eye on the empty homes, as you know this is a time the older kid's teepee or egg homes, or if they know a home is empty, vandalize it.

Let's all keep our children safe, and our neighborhoods safe.

But lets have fun too!Pumpkin

Sherry, great post. i wouldn't have thought about that. Possibly we should call the police in our towns and give them a heads up...something they might have thought of as well.

Sherry, I saw that editorial cartoon too. Funny, but kind of sad at the same time in the housing market. Hang in there. It's never as bad as we think.

I agree, good post. I hadn't thought about it either. I have a rental in town (in a decent part of town too!) with Five foreclosures all around it.

Hi Sherry... my Dad (who is also a Broker) sent me this cartoon this morning.  Very funny stuff.  And you are correct... we need to be aware of how these foreclosures and vacant properties could affect the kids in our neighborhoods.  Thanks for reminding us all of this point!

Sherry... this is a sad post.  I'm not 'bragging' but I think our neighborhood will be okay.  We have lots of kids and I think only one house has gone to foreclosure (214 houses in the community) and that house was already purchased and owners have moved in.  I'm sure there are many neighborhoods that will have these signs and issues.  I should be very thankful now that I have read your post that we have not experienced this.

I feel for the kids in such neighborhoods- I'm guessing they're going to have to take a longer route this year.

No foreclosures on my street so I will have the lights turned on

Richard, Chuck, John, Steve, Robert, & Ricki- We don't have any in my subdivision right now, but we are probably aware of areas that have several.  Great marketing opportunity if you were inclined to warn neighbors. Since moving here and being in a rather new sub-division with homes still being built, I always give out double treats since I know the kids don't get to trick or treat like we did as kids. I try to take my clients who have kids their own trick or treat bag from me too!

I had a foreclosure next door to me... but honestly--- good riddence.  It was amazing to me that in the 11 yes 11 years they'd been there... they had only managed to put a $1,000. dent in the principle on their loan.  I guess a lot of it was penalties and late fees.  But I was glad to see them go and I am hoping for better neighbors next time.  BTW- I didn't let my kids trick or treat at their house anyway.

Shrry- thanks for the well wishes... I'm feeling OK right now... don't know if I'll make it to the afternoon.

I'm going to do the same thing with my kids as I did as a kid because, well, I liked candy. You take your kids to an apartment complex and they can get to 4 doors in the same about of time that you could hit one in a house development.

One full pillow case in less than an house. It was awesome!
