Forget about the best swimming spot in Austin.
Barton Springs may be the best swimming spot on Earth.

Clear and icy and teeming with life, this 1,100 ft long spring-fed pool is one of the largest non-chlorinated swimming pools in the country. Average flow is 27,000,000 per day. These springs over the years have drawn Indians, pioneers, and tourists to this beautiful spot. The waters are brought from limestone strata to the surface by the Balcones Fault, which bisects central Texas.

Ducks, bass, and crawfish splash alongside lap swimmers and UT students desperately working on their tans. Open year round. (Subject to closure during times of heavy rainfall.) From 5am to 9am and 9pm to 10pm, you can swim, but there are no lifeguards on duty. From 9am to 9pm, the red suited lifeguards will watch your every move. Closed 9 am to 7pm on Thursdays for cleaning.
Admission: Adults, $2.50 weekdays, $2.75 weekends, 75 cents for ages 12 to 17 and 50 cents for 11 and under.

Sherry - Being a person that loves water and stuck in Las Vegas, this pool is looking really nice. We have pools here on the Strip, but there are thousands of people that swim in these pools per week.
Yuk!
Great post & pics.
Robert- That is why that flow of 27,000,000 gallons everyday is so important!
Sherry...
Look great and tagged correctly! Good luck in the contest. Liz
That looks beautiful. Makes me want to go there on my next vacation!
Sharon-One vacation vist and you would be ready to move to Austin! Leave your cold weather coats and ice scrappers and shovels behind...you won't need them!
Sherry, This is an incredible place. I love it, haven't been there in many years but it was a hot spot for me in my younger days (much younger days). :) So glad you did this blog. It deserves recognition as one of the very best places to swim.
Howdy Sherry
Got to tell you, them there photos have me want en to jump right on in there.
Austin Beat the Heat, at Barton Springs. Sure sounds and look like a lot of fun.

I was born in Austin and move away at a young age. I grew up though visiting lots ofrelatives there and remember going to Bartin Springs at a very early age. It is truly a Texas wonder! It seems like several years ago, before conservation was cool, that it almost dried up. It sure looks inviting now !
Ricki- Thank you so much! I think it is #1 for sure!
Dale-It is a cool dip on a hot day!
Trey- I know some times it has its days-but it always comes back!
Isn't the water cold? I imagine water coming from a Spring as cold water, but my husband says we need to go when we move there.
Donna, It is suppose to be 68 degrees year round. With all of our over 100 degree days....its a cool dip
