Arthur I. Tuss – My new friend I can’t shake….

arthritisArthur I. Tuss – My new friend I can’t shake….

For anyone who doesn’t know, I was walking a dog, tripped on a sidewalk and fell and broke my elbow last December. I am still dealing with other issues that came from that fall. They recently found I also tore a tendon in my shoulder from that fall, and I have developed arthritis in my shoulder, back, hips, knees, and feet.

You don’t get arthritis just because you are old. They say arthritis can develop after any fall or injury. Symptoms of arthritis may include chronic pain and difficulty with movement. It doesn’t discriminate against age or gender either. Here are 4 symptoms if you are not familiar with them…

  1. You can have swelling and redness of the skin that may get worse as you go through the day. Pain that can get worse during physical activity or from sitting in one position for too long.

  2. Sleeping can be difficult as it is hard to find a comfortable sleeping position that does not worsen your pain. You may be stiff, especially when you first wake up in the morning or after you have been in one position for a long period of time.

  3. Reduced motion and range of movement are symptoms of arthritis in your hips that make it difficult for you to climb stairs, step into a tall vehicle or exercise.

  4. Arthritis can slow down your speed of movement due to inflammation and wearing down of your cartilage.

I may still have to have shots or surgery on my shoulder, but just finding out what was causing my pain has been a relief.  I have tendinitis and bursitis now in that shoulder. But a very small tear, and hoping no surgery.

I have had to change the way I show homes. If the house is owner occupied, I will go upstairs with clients. However, if it is a vacant home…My client can take the stairs, I will wait down stairs. I showed 30 homes one day, 27 were 2 story homes. I could not move the next day! But, I am learning to deal with it! I have been given an anti-inflammatory drug for arthritis, so I can make it through the day much easier, and feel like I am getting more back to normal. I absolutely love what I do, and can’t let mean ole Arthur I. Tuss hold me back.

My mom has rheumatoid arthritis and at times has suffered terribly with it.  I hope yours will not give you too much discomfort!

That's good that your buyers are ok with you staying down stairs during showings.  You should get a hoov-around or whatever it's called. I'm getting lazy in my old age!

Ann-Hopefully I can keep it in check.

Donna-I don't think I am ready for the "Chair" yet! (I just can't do 27 flights of stairs everyday.)

LOL Sherry.  This is not funny at all, but Arthur I. Tuss made me chuckle out loud. :)

I had a car accident in 2001 - a truck cut me off, and I slammed right into its MASSIVE back wheel.  I was fine for a couple of days, and then I really felt like a truck hit me.  I'm still feeling the pain on my shoulder and hip (from putting all my weight on the brake and trying to hold the car from swerving onto the pedestrians on the sidewalk) ...

Anyway, Arthur I Tuss lives here too, and has, for many years and when the weather is colder, I can't find a comfortable position.  Funny, or not so much .. the insurance company wouldn't even pay for therapy... and I wish I had made more noise about that, because I paid for my own for months, and it felt a lot better.

Do whatever you can to ease the pain.  In this business, it's hard to go up and down stairs, with Arthur I Tuss attached to us.  Feel better. :)

Sylvie, I dread going home for the Holidays in winter....so cold and you can feel it in the bones..Ugh! Last year right after the break, we were in Kansas...I was so thankful for pain pills! May take some this year just in case....

Sherry, I live in Toronto, Canada .... cold enough for you?  I already turned on the heat in the house weeks ago.  Tonight may dip below zero, already.  And then I have 20 below zero temperatures until the end of April.  SUCKS!

I haven't taken any pills in a long, long time, but the pain is starting to be a real pain, if you know what I mean.  Boy, it really sucks to get old(er). :/

Sylvie-I couldn't take it!  I will stay in South Texas thank you. It was 91 yesterday, and upper 70's today with the cold front that came through.  Rarely any snow, and winter lasts about a week.  I rarely get my coat out unless we are going out of town.   Could I show you some homes here? LOL!
