Sherry's Austin TX Real Estate Blog: Who put men in charge?

Who put men in charge?

I am not man bashing. (That will come in perhaps the next post!) ...

House PlanI get so frustrated in the things that I know a man has designed. I just know some guy was sitting around thinking…what could I create that I would never want to use, and would totally suck the life out of women? A Vacuum cleaner! A large heavy bulky thing…that will kill her back…and will take 5 passes to suck up a thread! Then after deciding he could use one, he invents one with a longer hose (go figure!) …that not only picks up dirt but liquids! And it has the suction to suck a dog out of a house.

I know that men are usually the architects and home builders. Only through years of women pleading for more closet room has that upgrade evolved. Women, we need you to design homes! Obviously, men do not understand the concept of storage. Since most men don’t cook, they are designing kitchens? Remember the saying, “Those who can’t …teach.” Well, they don’t have a clue…and they are designing homes!

Women, it is time to step up to the plate. You know my motto….If you want a job done right, get a woman to do it! I know most women like to decorate a home, but let’s encourage our young women to take it a step further.

We need more women architects.  More women to design floor plans!Vanity

Women need to know that when we walk into the home of the future…there is a spot for the vacuum cleaner, a place to apply makeup with great lighting, storage for the Christmas tree and decorations, linen closets in every bath, no more washer and dryers in dirty garages, the ability to change the a/c filter without having to climb a ladder, pantries in every kitchen that will actually hold big box store quantities of items, a drawer deep enough in the kitchen for dish towels and pot holders….and not in just high end homes either!

Personally, I would like his and her master bathrooms…but maybe that is pushing it. (But I want that in my next house!)

Great post and you are so right, I think a woman must have finally demanded a larger kitchen, open areas BIGGER closet's before these thing's finally came around! and I don't think it really started until the 90's! I hope this post is featured!

Hey!  I take offense!  I teach, yet I also can do the job too!

There are a few floorplans in the mid- 80's that had double master baths, sharing only the tub and shower, but completely different vanities and entrances off the master bedroom.  Buyers think it's cool at first glance, but a waste of space at further glances and would prefer the larger bedroom.  That's probably why the plans went away.

...LOLOL !!! ... most of the homes I see designed now, the woman has a small warehouse for her walk in closet, and the guy gets a closet that could barely fit that vacuum in it that you were talking about !!!!

....nice to see you pop up on my blog roll :o)

Cheers !

David-Thanks!

Russell-You are to kind! Thanks!

Donna-No, plans went away because of the word "Shared". Otherwise it is just a waste of space. I know you can do and teach.

Sheldon-And the problem is.....LOL!

Ann-Thanks!

Sherry Isn't the second master now called a snoringroom? No doubt was a woman's invention or was it?

Sherry - some men do listen ... a few years ago a developer of a life lease building actually used some of my input in the design of the units ... I felt I was more than just the person who sold them the property and then pre sold the units.

Kathy- You go girl! I think part of the problem is we deal with local salesman...of builders who build in several states...and we are not getting to the right person.

Sherry - you may be right this particular project was a local dream brought to fruition by a local person who brought in local people for many key positions.

Sherry, we already have his and hers master bathrooms and his and hers massive walk in closets. :)
I would settle for just his toilet and my toilet, and I dont' mind if vanities are in the same space. LOL

I know for sure when a guy has designed a house or a condo ... it's always the ones that have a bathroom right off the kitchen or the dining room.

I sold a luxury townhome, waterfront, a few years ago, and there was a bathroon IN the kitchen.
Can you believe this crap? LOL

Sylvie-My idea of separate bath's IS separate water closets. Without that, it just defeats the purpose!   I know what you mean by baths off the kitchen or dining room... What were they thinking!
