Taking Away a Parents Drivers License.
A few weeks ago while driving home, I seen a motorcycle wreck. The fire trucks and ambulance were just pulling in. The minute I seen the man lying on the ground, I started to shake and tear up. I knew there was no way he could have made it. I heard later that day on the news, that he was killed in the accident. Even though I don’t even know his name…I still get upset whenever I think about it. My heart just aches for his family.
Wearing seat belts is a law in Texas, and I believe in every state. So why is it not a law for motorcycle riders to wear a helmet? I don’t know if that would have saved this man’s life, but I know there are many riders who could have been saved by wearing one.
I understand the accident was caused by an elderly man. What is your plan for your parents when you don’t feel it is safe for them to drive to any more? I really believe taking that away from them is a real blow, and probably the hardest thing to do to a parent.
They still need a way to the grocery store, doctor appointments, etc. Especially, if you live in another state and are not there to do it yourself, or there is not another family member or they are not willing to do it. And how many just don’t want the responsibility, and continue to let them drive and hope for the best? I wonder if that was the case in this accident?
